PB 1.13 and the WRITING NEWS Presentation Now Available!

PB 1.13 and the Writing News presentation (with video links) is available now via the class website or through this direct link. http://goo.gl/03067k

Students can work through the material ahead of time, demonstrate comprehension, and spend more time in the lab applying production skills and using equipment.

Students should keep a page of notes (or print the PDF and handwrite notes on the slides) along with questions they might have or connections between presented content and our e-MAS procedures. Be sure to complete any writing activities from the presentation.

Solid Crew, Editing Ahead!

I'm super excited about all of the hard work students have put into their first round of graded shows! We have some very talented performers and a great technical crew! The next piece of the broadcast puzzle is a group of editors. These students will be in charge of assembling footage and creating graphics toroduce the final broadcast product. After we finish up our broadcast writing fundamentals unit, we'll be launching into the editing fundamentals unit.  This will take us through the rest of the first grading period and into the second.

The e-MAS team this year is rock solid and ready to produce a high quality daily broadcast on a regular basis.

Setting up for a voice over in the studio

Below is a diagram detailing how to set up equipment for a voice over in the studio. This diagram can also be used to set up for vocal recording of a music video.

The input signal goes from a microphone in the studio to an XLR cable which runs through the wall port into the iMac lab to the Zoom H4n input which is connected to the computer via USB.

The monitor signal goes from the computer audio out port to a 1/8 splitter.  From there one side gets a set of headphones for the computer operator while the other side gets a long 1/8 to 1/8 cable which runs through the wall port to a 1/8 barrel adapter then to another set of headphones.

Here's a sketch:
